Singer, dancer and one-time Playboy magazine model Willa Ford will star as the late Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith in a biographical film about the billionaire’s widow that starts shooting next week.

A publicist for Ford, best known for her hit single I Wanna Be Bad and a stint on the ABC television show Dancing with the Stars, confirmed a report in Wednesday’s Daily Variety she was signed to play the title role in the film, Anna Nicole.

Like Smith, who sprang to fame as a model for the Guess? fashion line and as a Playboy’s Playmate of the Year, Ford once posed nude for the men’s magazine.

Variety said the independently produced movie would cover Smith’s life from the age of 17 until her February 8 death in Florida from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, five months after giving birth to a baby girl, Dannielynn.

A dispute over the baby’s paternity was settled on Tuesday when a court in the Bahamas released DNA test results showing that Smith’s former boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, was the child’s father.

The baby could one day be worth millions if Smith’s estate wins a decade-long battle to inherit a fortune from the late oil tycoon J Howard Marshall. He married Smith when she was 26 and he was 89. Marshall died 14 months later.

Ford, 26, a Florida native, began singing at age 8 in a children’s choir and released her first album, Willa Was Here, in 2001, billing herself as the “bad girl of pop.”

In addition to the Anna Nicole film in the works, a book titled Train Wreck: The Life and Death of Anna Nicole Smith, written by Smith’s half-sister, Donna Hogan, is due to hit bookstores this week.

Here Full name is now Dannielynn Hope Marshall Birkhead, and as she grows into the poor little rich girl that she seems fated to be she can at least be 99.9 per cent certain of who her father is.

DNA test results released in the Bahamas yesterday established that Dannielynn’s father is 34-year-old Larry Birkhead, a Los Angeles freelance photographer, very occasional television actor and consort of Anna Nicole Smith over several years.

In asserting his paternity, Mr Birkhead had previously claimed that Dannielynn was conceived in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve 2005. Mr Birkhead was jubilant after yesterday’s announcement. He waved and gave a thumbs up to the crowd outside the Bahamian court.

“I hate to be the one who told you this but … I told you so,” he said. “My baby’s gonna be coming home pretty soon. Nothing’s been determined yet but parentage, and I’m the father. It’s been a long road, and I’m happy to have this behind me and to be able to start a life with my daughter.”

Mr Birkhead’s paternity was established by DNA expert Dr Michael Baird, who said the results were “99.99999 per cent” certain.

Now seven months old, Dannielynn lost her mother on February 8 when Anna Nicole Smith died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. Subsequent toxicology tests showed that Smith, 39, had taken nine different medications and a powerful sedative.

At the time of her death, Smith was in the midst of a complicated array of lawsuits contesting her $US500 million ($A606 million) inheritance from her former husband of 14 months, Texas oil tycoon Howard Marshall. The pair were married when Smith was 26 and Mr Marshall 89.

In her will, Smith had named her son Daniel as heir. But Daniel, 20, died of a drug overdose in September last year. This left Dannielynn, as the sole heir to an estate in which not only the source of the wealth has died, but also the two bitterly opposed litigants — Smith and Howard Marshall’s son Pierce, who died last June. Court action on the division of the estate is still pending.

With yesterday’s announcement, Mr Birkhead has at least entered the vault. Whether he can open it may be decided later this week, with further court hearings to resolve Dannielynn’s custody. That is being contested by Smith’s mother, Virgie Arthur, in a Florida court.

The loser in the case is Howard Stern, Smith’s lawyer and companion, who was one of several to claim paternity.

Mr Stern had said he and Smith planned to wed on February 23. Mr Stern has had custody of Dannielynn at a house in the Bahamas since Smith’s death.

Larry Birkhead is the father. The probability of paternity is 99.9999%. Baird said, “essentially he is the biological father.”

Lawyers just announced the judge has made a ruling on who gets custody of Dannielynn, despite the fact that Larry Birkhead is the biological father.

Howard K. Stern just said “I am obviously very disappointed … I am not going to fight Larry Birkhead for custody.” Stern added, “I will do everything I can to make sure he gets sole custody.”

Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead hugged each other outside the courtroom. Stern said Birkhead was welcome to come to the house and spend as much time with baby Dannielynn as he wanted. Stern said he’d like the transition to be “gradual,” so the baby can adjust.

Larry Birkhead cannot take Dannielynn out of the Bahamas, until the custody issue is resolved. So, Stern has invited Larry to spend as much time as he wants at Horizons, where Stern is staying. Until Birkhead gets custody, he has no legal claim to the baby.

Virgie Arthur is expected to challenge the ruling. Her lawyer suggested she wants strings attached if Birkhead gets custody.

Anna Nicole Smith died with a toxic level of the sleeping medication chloral hydrate in her system reports the National Enquirer and Star magazine. Apparently, Anna Nicole had a raging blood infection also. The infection was caused by an unsterilized needle and contributed to her death. The infection was so serious, it would have killed her if she had not overdosed. Contrary to speculation, tests show Anna Nicole did not have methadone or any other painkilling drug in her system at the time of her death.

Just before she left the Bahamas for Florida on February 5, three days before she died, Anna Nicole received an injection in her left buttock. Tests did not reveal what that substance was. “As she boarded the plane for Miami, Anna Nicole developed a painful abscess at the site of the injection,” said a source with knowledge of the case. “The needle wasn’t sterile. The pain kept getting worse as the abscess got larger and larger very quickly.”

From Miami, Anna Nicole and Howard K. Stern traveled to Hollywood, Fla. The pain from the abscess became excruciating and Anna Nicole developed a high fever. By the time she got to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino her fever was 105. Anna Nicole, unaware that her blood was being poisoned by infection, had also developed a second infection from a virulent form of norovirus, which causes intestinal problems.

It was at this point that Anna Nicole made a fatal mistake. She refused to go to a hospital, a decision that would have saved her life. Instead, Anna’s people gave her an ice bath to control the fever, administered the antibiotic ciprofloxacin by mouth and gave her an over-the-counter flu medicine.

As the needle-caused infection took over her body, she began vomiting, had severe diarrhea and could not urinate. On February 6, a Tuesday, Anna spent the whole day in bed. She could not keep fluids down. She was becoming severely dehydrated.

On Wednesday, February 7, Anna seemed somewhat better, but she wasn’t, the source said. “She was still vomiting and suffering diarrhea,” said the source. “Again, she spent the whole day in bed, as the abscess continued to grow. She was in such pain, she just wanted to sleep.”

And that’s when the final fatal mistake was made. Sometime overnight on February 7, Anna ingested the sleeping medication chloral hydrate. The drug is extremely potent. The dose was too much — and in fact it was a toxic level. On Thursday, February 8, Anna never woke up.

Preliminary analysis indicated the cause of death was systemic sepsis syndrome, a lethal blood infection. It was caused by the abscess of the left buttock. Further investigation revealed the fatal level of chloral hydrate.

Rumors about the death of Anna Nicole Smith have grown with reports that the coroner investigating the model’s sudden death has delayed his report pending the discovery of new evidence.

Although nothing is known of the new evidence, the suggestion that Anna Nicole was murdered have now been raised, particularly given additional reports that the police call the new evidence “significant”.

Reports from some sources say that Anna Nicole’s bodyguard, Maurice Brighthaupt, who was with her on the day she died, claimed that her boyfriend, attorney Howard K. Stern had been acting “highly strange” hours before she died.

Coroner Dr Perper said he met with police chief Charlie Tiger after being advised about the new evidence that had come to light.

There is no indication of the nature or content of any new evidence, but the coroner’s report should be published in shortly.
